Meetings & Venue

Overview

The group usually meets from around 7:30pm on the second Thursday of odd months, currently in the Open Arms pub near the bottom of St Michael's Hill, Bristol. This has been changed from the second Wednesday to avoid clashes, so there should hopefully be no changes to this in future - but if you are thinking of attending, always check beforehand.

Meetings are open to one and all, and are simply a group of people with a shared set of interests - in RISC OS (and Acorn Computers) in particular, and computing and related technology in general - getting together for a drink and a chat, over a pint and/or a meal. Whether you live in or around Bristol, or just happen to be in the area at the time, you're welcome to join us.

The meetings are entirely informal in nature, so there is never a set topic - though upcoming (and recent) news and events in the RISC OS world tend to form a part of the evening's discussion.

Meeting schedule

With the occasional exception, meetings take place on the second Wednesday of odd months, and the anticipated meeting dates for 2024 are:

  • 10th 17th January (the last Wednesday meeting)
  • 14th March (the first Thursday meeting)
  • 9th May
  • 11th July
  • 12th September
  • 14th November

If you are thinking of joining us for a pint, please keep an eye out for announcements in case of changes to the schedule (or venue) - they do happen occasionally!

Venue

The address of the venue is:

The Open Arms pub
St. Michael's Hill,
BS2 8DX.

Parking is on-road, with most local roads metered - however, there is a limited amount of free parking in the evenings right outside the pub. For users of public transport, the pub is about a fifteen minute walk from places like Stoke's Croft, and the Bearpit roundabout, where a number of services stop.

The Open Arms has a selection of real ales, as well as soft drinks for drivers, and a serves a small but enjoyable selection of food.
